Last Time: Grimes Wins 200th As Cal Beats USF 2-0
Kevin Grimes has coached a lot of good soccer in his 20 seasons as the head coach of the Cal men's team, and on Sept. 28 it culminated in the veteran coach earning the 200th win of his career as the Golden Bears defeated San Francisco, 2-0, at Edwards Stadium.
Alonzo Del Mundo scored in the first half and assisted – via a corner kick – on
Jonathan Estrada's second-half strike as the Bears improved to 4-2-1 on the season. USF fell to 2-6-0 after the nonconference result.
Grimes reflected on his milestone win after the match: "You think about all the players that you had over the years that helped you achieve this, and you look at all the support staff that has been so incredible over the years, and we're so proud of five former assistant coaches that have been head coaches in college, including Leonard Griffin, who was our opposing coach today. It's those things that you think about when you get to 200 wins.
"And (goalkeeper coach)
Henry Foulk has been with me at Cal for all 20 years, and you can't thank him or the rest of your assistant coaches and all the administrative staff enough. They've all been wonderful to us, and that's made us successful."
