Bears Vie For Two Titles Sunday At UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal men's tennis could walk away with singles and doubles titles when the UCSB Classic concludes on Sunday. On Saturday, Golden Bear senior Dominic Barretto advanced to the A Singles final, while the pair of Thomas Wright and Mert Zincirli reached the B Doubles title match in the Gauchos' annual event.
 
On Saturday in the A Singles quarterfinals, Barretto defeated UCSB's Alex Vedri, 6-1, 6-2, and Zincirli beat Cal Poly's Antoine Noel, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Barretto went on to knock off the Gauchos' Joey Rotheram, 6-2, 6-2, while Zincirli fell to Stanford's Neel Rajeesh, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals to create a Big Match final on Sunday.
 
In the B doubles bracket, Wright and Zincirli edged San Diego State's Rafael Gonzalez Almazan and David Hough, 8-7(5), in the semis to reach Sunday's final against Fresno State's Daniel Baturyn and Johannes Seeman.
 
Wright also competed in the C Singles bracket, but the Cal junior fell to Oregon's Evan Felcher, 7-6(5), 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Wright will next take on UCSB's Josh Williams on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the fifth-place match and the loser playing for seventh place on the last day of the tournament.
