SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The California men's tennis team wrapped up a successful trip to the UCSB Classic, with Golden Bear senior Dominic Barretto winning the A singles title and teammates Thomas Wright and Mert Zincirli capturing a doubles title as the annual tournament came to a close.
 
Barretto beat Stanford's Neel Rajeesh, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, to give Cal its fourth UCSB Classic top-flight singles champion over the past seven years – including Nikhil Jayashankar in 2013, Mads Engsted in 2014 and Billy Griffith in 2015.
 
In the B Doubles final, Zincirli and Wright defeated Fresno State's Daniel Baturyn and Johannes Seeman, 8-5, giving Cal its second B Doubles crown in the last six years, including the title that Engsted and Wyatt Houghton won in 2014. 

"Our guys played well this weekend with all three of them taking home a title in singles or doubles," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "I'm so proud of Nic for battling through four matches in 48 hours to take home the A flight title. His play in today's final showed so much maturity as he deftly shifted his game between solid defense and powerful offense. His improved serve was on show throughout the match, and he clinched the victory with an ace.
 
"In doubles, Mert and Thomas had great chemistry in their three wins. I was especially impressed with their play in the final, as they were down early and fought back to take the victory with great play at the net."
 
Wright played an extra singles match at the UCSB Classic on Sunday, with the Cal junior falling, 6-4, 6-1, to LMU's Emin Torlic.
 
Cal next competes in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Oct. 25-29 at Stanford.
