Bears Battle Beavs To Scoreless Draw

Cal Wraps Up Road Trip With Double-Overtime Effort At Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cal women's soccer team remains unbeaten on the road this season after playing Oregon State to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field. The Golden Bears (9-3-2, 1-2-2 Pac-12) picked up another point away from home and record their eighth shutout of the season with Sunday's result against the Beavers (9-2-2, 1-2-2 Pac-12).  Cal leads the conference with a 0.48 goals against average on the year and a Pac-12 best eight shutouts.

"Today was a good battle between two very committed teams," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "[Oregon State head coach Matt Kagan] has done an excellent job with his team. We are happy with the shutout as those are never easy in the Pac-12, and we will continue to look for ways to score."

Oregon State, who went a perfect 8-0-0 in non-conference, managed eight shots in the first half, but put only one of which on target. Cal nearly got on the board in the 36th minute when freshman Jadyn Shinn put a shot off the cross, but the teams headed into halftime 0-0.

Both teams continued to look for the go-ahead goal in the second half, but could not find the finishing touch. Cal goalkeeper Angelina Anderson denied Oregon State striker Brianna McReynolds in the 51st minute and ten minutes later, it was Oregon State's Bridgette Skiba coming up with the save on a strike from distance by Cal's Kailee Gifford. Anderson made three of her five save saves on the day in the final ten minutes of regulation, denying the Beavers and sending Cal to overtime for the third game in a row.

While Oregon State held a 22-11 overall advantage in shots on the afternoon, the Bears outshot the Beavers 4-0 in overtime and forced Skiba into a pair of saves. Oregon State held a slim 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-0 lead in corner kicks.

Junior forward/midfielder Emma Westin led the Bears with four shots on the afternoon, including a look in the 108th minute that was saved by Skiba.

Cal returns to Berkeley on Friday, hosting No. 4 USC (11-1-1, 4-1-0 Pac-12) at 4 p.m. PT at Edwards Stadium. The matchup against the Women of Troy will be carried live on Pac-12 Networks and is one of three remaining home games for the Bears this season.
