LOS ANGELES – Reigning National and Pac-12 Player of the Week
Mima Mirkovic recorded her third straight double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs, but No. 15 California came up short in a 14-25, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25 loss to USC at the Galen Center on Friday night.
The Bears (17-2, 7-2 Pac-12) got 13 kills apiece from seniors
Bailee Huizenga and
Maddie Haynes in the loss.
Cal responded in the third set after dropping the first two frames when USC used big runs to take the 2-0 lead.
The Bears scored four straight points to grab a 14-13 lead in the third on a block by junior
Preslie Anderson and Haynes, and closed out the set with a 5-1 run that included kills from Mirkovic and Anderson.
USC's block gave Cal trouble all match long, as the Trojans (12-7, 6-3 Pac-12) tallied 15 team blocks compared to just four for the Bears. Mirkovic and senior
Emma Smith each recorded a team-high 12 digs for Cal.
