Bears Fall On Road To Utes

  • Freshman QB Spencer Brasch earned his first start for the Bears. He is the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Cal since Jared Goff vs. Northwestern on Aug. 31, 2013
  • Brasch was one of four Bears who had their first Cal starts, with the others being OL Erick Nisich, WR Ben Skinner and LB Ben Hawk Schrider
  • With a career-high-tying 22 tackles tonight, Evan Weaver moved up to fourth on Cal's career tackles list, now with 357. He passed both Ron Rivera (336, 1980-83) and Mike Mohamed (340, 2007-10) vs. Utah
  • Weaver recorded at least 15 tackles for the fifth time this season, at least 20 for the third time and reached at least 10 tackles for the seventh time in eight games
  • Kuony Deng had his third consecutive game with at least 10 tackles, finishing with career-best 15
  • Cal saw its streak of holding opponents to less than 25 points end at 14 games 9the streak had been the longest active one in the country and ninth longest in the Pac-12 since 1980)
  • Cal was shut out for the first time since a 45-0 loss at Nebraska on Sept. 11, 1999
  • Ben Skinner had his first catch, a 9-yard reception in the second quarter, while Collin Moore had his first career reception in the third quarter (7 yards)
  • QB Robbie Rowell and OL Brayden Rohme made their first Cal appearances in the fourth quarter
