TULSA, Okla.Kent Hunter continued his strong fall when the Cal men's tennis sophomore won twice on Sunday to advance to qualifying singles at the ITA All-American Championships. He won twice in the pre-qualifying singles tournament on Saturday and then added to his tally Sunday to reach the qualifying tournament that starts Monday.
 
Hunter first defeated Rice's Karol Paluch, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the third round on Sunday, and then he topped Tennessee's Andrew Rogers, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to Monday.
 
Cal junior Can Kaya likewise won in the pre-qualifying singles third round, beating Wichita State's Elio Lago, 6-3, 7-5. But the Golden Bear fell to USC's Ryder Jackson, 6-1, 6-1, in the next round.
 
Hunter shone earlier in the fall as the top collegian in the Kunal Patel San Francisco Open Championships. He will join Cal teammates Bjorn Hoffmann, Paul Barretto and Jacob Brumm in qualifying singles, which run Monday through Tuesday.
 
Qualifying doubles – with the Cal pair of Barretto and Kaya competing – also run Monday through Tuesday. Main draw singles (which includes Cal's Yuta Kikuchi) and main draw doubles (with Kikuchi and Brumm) are scheduled for Wednesday through next Sunday.
