BERKELEY – California senior goalkeeper Drake Callender signed with Major League Soccer debutante Inter Miami CF, the club announced this week.

"We are very excited for Drake to start his professional career at the new MLS expansion team, Inter Miami," Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. "Drake was a standout performer all four years at Cal and got very high quality training from our goalkeeper coach, Henry Foulk. His development over his time at Cal led us to two NCAA playoff appearances and a host of individual awards for Drake.  We all look forward to the start of his promising professional career."

Inter Miami had previously traded with the San Jose Earthquakes to acquire Callender's homegrown player rights.

Callender completed his college career with the Golden Bears in the NCAA tournament in November, with the Fair Oaks, California, native garnering All-Pac-12 second-team and United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region status. He tied a career high with six shutouts to rank second in the Pac-12, posted a 0.743 save percentage (ranking third in the conference) and compiled a 1.12 goals-against average (ranking fourth in the Pac-12).

Early in the fall, Callender trained with the U.S. U-23 Men's National Team. Also accomplished in the classroom, the legal studies major was a Senior CLASS Award finalist who collected Athletic Study Center Scholar-Athlete of the Week recognition this season.
