Vaughn Wins Pac-12 Player Of The Week Honor
First baseman Went 8-for-13 Over Four Games
Andrew Vaughn was a driving force behind the Cal baseball team's 4-0 run last week, and the junior first baseman was recognized for it as the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
The reigning Golden Spikes Award winner and a preseason All-American, Vaughn went 8-for-13 with two home runs, six RBI and seven walks in a win over BYU and a three-game sweep of Cal Poly. He also made several standout plays with the glove over the weekend against Cal Poly.
Though teams are pitching him very carefully given his hefty credentials, Vaughn is influencing games even the bat's taken out of his hands. Cal Poly walked him intentionally three times Sunday, twice loading the bases in doing so, and both times the batter hitting behind him,
Korey Lee, delivered two-run base hits.
Vaughn has set a torrid pace over the Bears' first seven games, hitting .524 (11-for-21) with three homers, 9 RBI and a .714 on-base percentage that leads the Pac-12 and ranks second in the country.
Cal hosts Saint Mary's in its home opener Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
