Bears Cross The Bay For Rematch With USF
Non-Conference Matchup Awaits Cal Before Crucial Homestand
After sweeping Utah in a road conference series over the weekend, the Cal baseball team travels across the Bay Bridge to take on USF on Tuesday at 3 p.m. It will be the second meeting of the season between the neighboring schools, with the Bears claiming a 10-7 victory March 19 at Evans Diamond. The game will be live streamed, with a link for accessing the stream and live stats available on the baseball schedule page at CalBears.com.
The Bears continued their recent surge with three consecutive wins over the Utes in Salt Lake City. They've won 16 of their past 20 and have taken four of their past five conference series. Tuesday marks Cal's final midweek game of 2019, and the Bears will then return home to host back-to-back Pac-12 series against No. 3 Stanford and No. 24 Arizona State.
The long ball continues to be a strength for the Bears. They homered a season-high five times Sunday against Utah, giving them 65 home runs for the season. Entering Monday, the only team with more in the Pac-12 was Arizona State with 73.
Andrew Vaughn, the returning Golden Spikes Award winner from last season, went deep twice Sunday. His 13 homers rank fifth in the Pac-12. The man who hits behind him,
Korey Lee, is fifth in RBI with 47.
Cal's pitching staff ranks fifth in the conference with a 4.09 ERA, led by junior right-hander
Jared Horn, whose 2.02 ERA is second in the Pac-12 individually.
