Cal Women Showcase Talent At Capital Cross Challenge
Women Take Second In Invitational And First In Open Competition
SACRAMENTO – The California cross country teams took to the course for the third time this season on Saturday morning at the Capital Cross Challenge. Competing at Arcade Creek Golf Course, the Golden Bear women put on a dominant display in both the invitational and open events. The Bears sent ten student-athletes to the line to compete in the women's 6K invitational, coming away with a second place finish in the early morning event.
Redshirt sophomore
Mina Anglero ran the fastest time for the Bears in the event, logging a mark of 20:48:6 to finish in sixth place. The Bears were also given a boost from junior
Annie Boos and
Marea Zlatunich in Saturday's race. Boos finished 17th with a time of 21:08.6 while Zlatunich followed with a 21:16.6 mark to take 22nd.
The Golden Bear women also had 10 competitors toe the line in the 6K open run at the Capital Cross Challenge, taking the event with a first-place finish and a winning mark of 23 points. Newcomer Sara Osterberg led the way for the Bears in her collegiate debut, crossing the line at 21:56.4 to capture a fourth-place finish.
Kenna Clawson finished just behind her, taking sixth with a time of 22:06.1.
Kalinda Reynolds followed with a 22:11.2 mark to take seventh and Elizabeth Orderman posted a 22:16.5 mark to finish 12th.
In a loaded field of college competition, the men's team finished seventh out of 35 teams as they scored 265 points in the 8K race.
Colin FitzGerald stood out for the Bears in Saturday's event with a time of 24:44.3 to finish 27
th in the competition.
Trevor Woodward was next to cross the line for Cal as he finished in 24:56.0.
Steven Khan notched a time of 24:56.8
California will split their squad action for the first time this year after a three-week break in the action. Cal will send a number of runners to compete in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara, while others will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to participate in the Under Armor Pre-National Invitational.
