FULLERTON, Calif. - A four-run first inning led No. 4 LSU to a 5-1 win over the California softball team Friday in the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
The Golden Bears fell to 9-8 on the year.
Cal got on the board in the top of the sixth when
Mikayla Coelho earned her second hit of the day, an RBI double that scored
Amani Bradley from first.
With two on and nobody out in the bottom of the first, the Tigers went up, 2-0, on a two-run triple, starting the four-run frame. The Tigers posted two RBI triples in their first turn at bat.
LSU added its fifth run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
Coelho and
Makena Smith wasted no time extending their hitting streaks, each singling in the first inning. Coelho now has a team-best 13-game hitting streak, while Smith stands at 12.
Along with two walks, Smith reached base three times on Friday.
D'Asha Saiki earned Cal's third hit of the game with an infield single in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers loaded the bases, but
