LOS ANGELES- The California women's soccer team lost its second-straight match Sunday falling on to No. 23 USC on the road 2-0.
Despite falling to 7-5-6 overall with a 4-2-4 Pac-12 standing, the Golden Bears remain in fourth place in the conference standings. The Trojans remain just above them in third and improve to 10-3-3, 6-1-3.
Dropping back-to-back matches for just the second time this season, the Bears were outshot 16-5 with the Trojans holding them to just one shot on goal in the match. Senior forward Mia Fontana led Cal with a pair of tries and notched the sole try on frame.
USC got on the board with a goal by Maribel Flores in the 14th minute and would hang on to that lead for the entirety of the match, limiting the Bears to just four shots in the first half. The second half saw the Trojans outshoot Cal 10-1 and tack on another goal in the 51st minute courtesy of Izzy Kimberly.
Sophomore goalkeeper Teagan Wy snatched up four saves with a pair in each half giving her 11 total for the road trip. Unfortunately the Bears' offense didn't find the back of the net in Los Angeles suffering two-straight shutouts for just the second time this season.
