SALT LAKE CITY- The California women's soccer team saw its second-straight 1-1 tie Thursday night drawing with host Utah.
Cal now holds a 5-3-4 overall record and remains undefeated in Pac-12 play at 2-0-2. Utah stands at 5-3-5, 1-1-2.
The first half was a defensive showcase as the two teams combined for just five shots. The Utes landed two of their three attempts on frame but neither squad could muster a strong scoring chance.
It wasn't until the 74th minute that the scoreless tie was broken. Seniors
Skylar Briggs and
Anysa Gray had a couple beautiful touches near the right sideline to put Briggs in a perfect position just outside of the box. After a few more dribbles Briggs fired a cross off her right foot that found a diving
Abby Borchers right in front of the net. From her knees the senior sent a header towards the goal that ricocheted off a couple Utes before finding the net.
Borchers now has two goals on the year and Briggs was credited with her second assist.
The Bears appeared to have the win in hand until a foul was committed in the box in the 88th minute that gave the Utes a late penalty kick. Katie O'Kane stepped to the spot for Utah and netted the equalizer to help her team avoid its second conference loss.
Sophomore
Teagan Wy had a strong outing between the posts collecting six saves, marking her career-high in Pac-12 matches.
