Bears Come Up Short Against Wildcats

Cal Strands Seven In Game Two Of The Series

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Cal baseball team battled all afternoon but fell short as host Arizona came away with a 7-5 series-clinching win on Saturday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
 
Cal (8-5/0-2 Pac-12) was 3-for-9 on Saturday with runners in scoring position, the first was a two-run single off the bat of Peyton Schulze with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning that briefly tied the game at 2-2. The big hit was a two-out double to left center that scored a pair by Caleb Lomavita in the top of the fourth.
 
Lomavita finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored and two driven in. Schulze continues to heat up, he was 2-for-3 with two runs driven in. Cade Campbell went 1-for-3 with an RBI, his fourth of the year.
 
Arizona (11-3/2-0 Pac-12) scored two in the first, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and added an insurance run in the eighth to extend their winning streak to eight games. Kiko Romero continued to haunt the Bears, he went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Casagrande went 3-for-4 with a two-run triple in the fourth to give the Wildcats the lead for good.
 
After a shaky first inning, Paulshawn Pasqualotto gave Cal three solid innings. The Bear's starter went three complete, surrendering two hits, two earned runs, with a walk, and a season-high five strikeouts. Connor Sullivan (1-1) took the loss, he allowed six hits, four earned runs with a strikeout in three innings of work.
 
Chris Barraza (1-0) was credited with the win. He threw two complete, scattering one hit and struck out five. The Wildcat's bullpen limited Cal to five hits and one over five innings to preserve the lead. Trevor Long threw a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the year.

Kade Kretzschmar went 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his streak to 13 games reaching safely. Rodney Green Jr. and Carson Crawford also collected hits for the Bears.
