BERKELEY –
Annabel Teperson threw a complete game shutout, leading California to a series-clinching, 2-0, win over Arizona State on Saturday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Bears (22-7-1, 4-3-1 Pac-12) took the series from the Sun Devils (17-10, 1-4 Pac-12) for the first time since 2012 behind Teperson and great defense.
Tatum Anzaldo raised her average to .403 with a 2-for-3 outing.
Cal took away at least two Sun Devil hits on the day, the first coming in the second inning when Anzaldo made a diving stop at first base to get the final out and leave the bases full of Sun Devils in a scoreless game.
The Bears scored the only runs they needed in the third frame with the game-winning run coming in on an RBI bloop single off the bat of
Makena Smith to make it 1-0. Cal added its second run on a fielding error by the shortstop, allowing
Acacia Anders to score after she reached on a fielder's choice.
Mika Lee made a sliding catch in center field to end the ASU fourth frame and Teperson stranded three more Sun Devils before retiring the side in order in the seventh to earn her sixth win of the season.
