SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Anna Reimers threw a shutout in the circle and the California softball team got to Sacramento State ace Marissa Bartuccio in a 7-0 win on Tuesday at Shea Stadium.
The Golden Bears (25-12-1) were led by Reimers who recorded a season-best seven strikeouts and two hits apiece from
Acacia Anders,
Makena Smith and
Kacey Zobac.
It was a pitcher's duel through three as both Reimers and Bertuccio, the reigning Big West Pitcher of the Year, had each allowed just one hit and no runs.
The Bears broke through against Bertuccio in the fourth, taking a 1-0 lead on Zobac's RBI single to score Anders after she started the frame with a base hit and moved to second when Smith laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt.
One run was all Reimers needed but the Bears kept pouring it on offensively. Cal added two in the fifth on an Anders RBI single and made it 3-0 with a Smith RBI double down the left field line.
With Reimers retiring six of the last seven Hornets she faced heading to the sixth, Zobac's sixth home run of the season, a solo shot to dead center put Cal up by four. Reimers worked around a two-out double in the home half and the Bears added RBI singles off the bats of Smith and
D'Auna Johnson in the seventh to put away the game.
