MORAGA, Calif. –
Annabel Teperson threw a one-hit shutout to lead the California softball team to a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at Cottrell Field.
The Golden Bears (31-14-1) scored the only run they needed in the second inning when
Elon Butler scored on an error after getting on with a base hit and stealing second base. Butler went 3-for-4 on the day and
Makena Smith had a 3-for-3 outing.
Tatum Anzaldo added a pair of hits for the Bears.
Teperson had all of her pitches working throughout the afternoon, working quickly and pounding the strike zone. The sophomore from Novato, California, had a perfect game through four frames before walking a batter in the fifth. Teperson's only hit allowed was a leadoff single to start the sixth inning.
Cal had several chances to add to its lead, leaving 12 runners on base for the game, including leaving the bases full in the third and fourth innings. Teperson improved to 10-4 on the year with the victory and recorded her third shutout.
