BERKELEY – The California softball team fell behind early for the second straight day and the rally came up short in a 5-3 loss to No. 14 Oregon on Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Golden Bears (31-16-1, 7-12-1 Pac-12) got RBI hits from
Acacia Anders and
Kennedy Thomas. The Ducks (34-11, 13-7 Pac-12) got their 12
th straight win behind two hits apiece off the bats of Allee Bunker and Kedre Luschar.
Oregon got on the board with an RBI double in the second frame off of Cal starter
Annabel Teperson and increased its lead to 3-0 on a two-run homer in the third inning.
The Bears went to
Haylei Archer out of the bullpen to start the fourth and a solo shot followed by an RBI single gave Oregon a five-run advantage.
Cal struggled to get its offense going against UO starter Stevie Hansen, recording just one hit through the first four innings. The bats finally broke out, however, in the fifth.
D'Asha Saiki drew a walk and pinch-runner
Hope Alley scored on the Thomas RBI double to get the Bears on the board.
Anders kept the rally going with an RBI single and she moved to third on a two-base error from the Oregon center fielder. Anders made it a two-run game when she raced home on a wild pitch but the inning ended on a foul out.
The Bears couldn't get anything going in the sixth or the seventh as Morgan Scott earned her sixth save of the year.
