SEATTLE – The California softball team fell 10-4 to No. 10 Washington on Saturday in the series finale at the Husky Softball Stadium.
The Golden Bears (24-12-1, 6-8-1 Pac-12) were led by a 3-for-3 day from
Acacia Anders. Madison Huskey went 4-for-4 for the Huskies (29-8, 10-5 Pac-12).
Washington got on the board first for the third time in the series, scoring three runs on four hits and an error in the second inning after the Bears went to
Anna Reimers with the bases loaded and nobody out, taking over in the circle for starter
Haylei Archer.
Cal looked to get on the board in the third after back-to-back singles from Anders and
Kennedy Thomas, but a couple of groundouts and a flyout ended the threat. The Huskies added to their lead in the fourth with a two-run double to left as the game went to the fifth with a 5-0 score.
The Bears finally broke through in the fifth, scoring their first run on a
Tatum Anzaldo RBI single to make it 5-1 and force Washington to go to its bullpen for Lindsay Lopez with the bases full and one down.
Elon Butler made it a three-run game with a sac fly to left and
Kacey Zobac came through in the clutch with the two-run double to make it 5-4 heading to the home half of the inning.
UW had an answer to Cal's big inning as they did all series, scoring three runs on three hits to make it a four-run game again at 8-4 after five and added two more in the sixth.
