BERKELEY- The California women's soccer team (2-3-2) closed out its five-match home stand Friday night with a 1-1 draw against Utah Valley (3-3-3).
The Golden Bears dominated on the offensive end winning the shot battle 17-6, but the Wolverine defense picked up a number of blocks and only allowed Cal to put four on frame.
After a scoreless first half, two goals were scored within a five-minute span as UVU broke the tie with a goal in the 64th minute by Faith Webber. The Bears were incredibly quick to respond, forcing the ball into the attacking third until senior
Abby Borchers came off the bench and managed to bury the equalizer off a rebound in the 68th. It was the forward's first goal of the season and third of her career. Borchers is the eighth Bear to get in the scoring column this season.
Following Borchers goal, the Bears continued to be aggressive on the offensive end putting up 11 shots to the Wolverines' three. Cal had a handful of scoring opportunities in the final 20 minutes, but UVU held strong to preserve the tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Teagan Wy had an uneventful day thanks to the Bears' defense, which only allowed two shots on goal. Wy finished with one save.
