Cal Hosts Idaho State In School Haas Rock Game
Annual Contest Welcomes East Bay Youth To Haas Pavilion
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team will host several thousand youth from schools around the East Bay as part of its annual
School Haas Rock game when it hosts Idaho State at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday. The annual event, hosted at Haas Pavilion, serves as an opportunity to entertain and educate local youth at the elementary and middle school levels and bring them into a university setting.
The Golden Bears (1-0) have only faced the Bengals once previously in a 100-43 win on Nov. 15, 2009. That 2009-10 squad featured Cal Hall of Famer Alexis Gray-Lawson and current Cal assistant coach
Eliza Pierre.
The Bengals (1-0) are led by 17th year head coach Seton Sobolewski and return four of their five starters in Kacey Spink, Maria Dias, Halle Wright and Sophia Covello. Idaho State is coming off a season-opening 91-52 win over Arizona Christian.
Thursday's game will air on ACCNX with Dave Benz on the call.

- Michelle Onyiah recorded four blocks, one off her career high, to move into a tie for sixth place on Cal's all-time career list with 103 blocks.
- Ioanna Krimili added four triples while Marta Suárez nearly had a double-double with 17 points and eight rebounds.
- The Bears connected on 14 shots from beyond the arc which tied for the second most for a single game in program history and were just three away from tying the program record (17 vs Manhattan, Nov. 24, 2017).
- The 14 triples tied for the fourth most made among the 265 teams that played on opening day.
- The win extended Cal's win streak in the series to seven games and marked the largest margin of victory over the Gaels since an 89-41 win on Nov. 5, 2012.
- Last year, Cal set a single-season program record with 282 made 3-pointers.
- Krimili is currently the nation's leader in both career triples (341) and most career games with at least five made 3-pointers (24).
- The Bears received six votes in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll (Oct. 24).
- The returning trio of Krimili, Suárez and Twidale combined for 144 3-pointers last season, which accounted for 51% of the team's total triples made.
- Suárez proved to be one of the most versatile players on the team last season as she made impacts on both ends of the floor leading the team in rebounds (171) while ranking third in 3-point makes (42).
- Twidale was only one of two freshmen in the Pac-12 to either score 24 points or hit six triples in a game; the other was USC's Juju Watkins.
- Onyiah is currently seven blocks away from taking the fifth spot on Cal's all-time career blocks list. She would pass recent graduate ('22) Evelien Lutje Schipholt.
- This year's roster features the No. 22-ranked freshman class, which includes two rookies who are part of ESPN HoopGurlz Top 100 - Kamryn Mafua (No. 54) and Zahra King (No. 76) along with last year's Gatorade and MaxPreps Hawaii State Player of the Year Lola Donez and Gabby Abigor.
- The Bears welcome four transfers in graduate forward Natalia Ackerman (Cal Poly), sophomore guard Gisella Maul (Texas), graduate guard Jayda Noble (Washington) and graduate guard Kayla Williams (USC).
