OGDEN, Utah – The No. 18 California Softball team hit three home runs on the way to a 10-2 run-rule win over Weber State on Wednesday at the Wildcat Softball Stadium.
Acacia Anders,
Lagi Quiroga and
Hope Alley all homered for the Golden Bears (25-8). Kiaira Smith and Sarah Ruhl each drove in a run for the Wildcats (12-16).
After Weber State scored the first of the game, Cal put the next 10 straight on the scoreboard. Anders, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, crushed her sixth homer of the season to get the Bears on the board and knot the score at 1-1.
Quiroga's ninth long ball of the year in the fourth inning gave Cal a 4-1 lead after
Alyssa Herrera drove in a run with a single earlier in the frame.
Ryann Orange got the start in the circle for the Bears and kept the Weber lineup off balance, scattering four singles through four complete innings.
Cal blew the game open in the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits and a Wildcat error.
Elon Butler laced a 2-run double to the gap in right center and Alley followed, driving her first career homer over the fence in center field to make it 8-1. The Bears scored their final two runs on a throwing error to lead it 10-1 heading to the home half.
Weber State got a run back with a leadoff homer and
Ashanti McDade came on in relief to get the final three outs and secure the run-rule victory.
