Bears Collect 7 Top-3 Finishes

Cal Finds Success At Three Separate Meets

AUSTIN, Texas – Several top sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers from California track & field braved windy conditions at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist, notching a trio of podium finishes and qualifying to Saturday's finals in five races.
 
Sophomore Jason Plumb earned his second straight long jump crown of the outdoor season, leaping to a wind-aided mark of 7.67m (25-2) to take first place in the men's "B" section. Freshman Myla Canty posted a wind-aided PR of 12.79m (41-11.5) in Section B of the triple jump, earning second place; meanwhile, junior Asjah Atkinson continued her first collegiate outdoor campaign with the second-fastest time of the 100m hurdles timed finals, a wind-aided 13.69.
 
Three individuals and two relay squads qualified for the finals in their respective events. Both the men's (39.91) and the women's (45.01) 4x100m relay squads won their heats for another chance to compete on Saturday, while hurdlers Donovan Bradley (13.75w) and Jada Hicks (13.12w) moved on to the next round of their races. Top Golden Bear sprinter David Foster posted a massive wind-aided PR of 10.06 in the 100m to round out the group of qualifiers.

STANFORD – The Bears picked up another quartet of top-three finishes at a rainy Stanford Invitational, starting with sophomore Carolina Visca's victory in the women's javelin invite (48.16m/158-0). Fellow thrower Audrey Jacobs followed up with a second-place finish in the women's hammer invite, posting a mark of 62.13m (203-10), while freshman Victor Ezike Jr. finished second in his section of the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.93m (6-4). Over on the track, junior Isaiah Shaw once again broke the 47-second barrier with a second-place time of 46.95 in the 400m.
 
Several other athletes bearing the Blue & Gold found success at Cobb Track. Senior Carrick Denker shaved nearly 48 seconds off his PR in the 5000m, racing to a time of 14:10.95, while classmate Josh Keller posted a personal-best time of 21.51 in the 200m. Junior Jaymie Ruskovich represented the women's sprinters well, first by qualifying for Saturday's 100m final with a PR of 11.93, then recording a wind-legal PR of 24.81 to win her 200m heat.
 
Four male Bears reached their field event finals at Stanford. Rookies Chukwunonso Udeh (7.07m/23-2.5) and Javon Hampton Jr. (6.93m/22-9) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the collegiate long jump, while redshirt freshmen Nick Godbehere (50.00m/164-0) and Nik Iwankiw (49.07m/161-0) finished at a respective fifth and seventh in the collegiate discus.

HAYWARD – Cal sent several underclassmen distance runners to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, entering the men's and women's 1500m contests on Friday afternoon.
 
The Bears' men were led by second-year Rowan FitzGerald, who finished 18th out of 223 runners with a personal-best time of 3:55.90. Teammates Roland Ruckmann-Barnes (4:01.63) and Dylan Bissell (4:04.49) also recorded personal bests, the former by over four seconds; meanwhile, freshman Julian Doak recorded a time of 4:03.52 in his second collegiate 1500m.
 
Freshman Addie Johnson paced Cal's women, shaving nearly four seconds off of her own PR to 4:44.70 and placing 27th out of 183 runners. She was followed in the standings by teammates Eva Novy-Hildesley (4:49.99), Petra Schuster (4:55.28), Sydney Morrow (5:03.82) and Dasha Zerboni (5:15.23).
