BERKELEY – Elon Butler hit her Pac-12 Conference-leading 13th home run of the season but it wasn't enough as the No. 20 California softball team fell, 10-4, to No. 8 Washington on Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field.
Tatum Anzaldo went 2-for-3 with two RBI and raised her season average to .406 for the Golden Bears (30-14, 4-11 Pac-12). Brooke Nelson hit a pair of home runs for the Huskies (30-7, 12-5 Pac-12).
Cal got on the scoreboard first for the second time in as many days to start the series, scoring when
Elon Butler laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Anzaldo.
As they did on Friday, the Huskies didn't waste time answering back as they scored five runs on three hits to make it 5-1 after the top of the second. Anzaldo came up clutch in the home half of the inning, lacing a ball up the middle with two down and runners at second and third base to bring them both around and pull Cal within 5-3.
Sidne Peters kept the Bears off the scoreboard until the seventh when Butler homered and the Huskies scored two in the fourth and three in the top of the seventh to secure the series victory.
