Silva Qualifies for NCAA Singles

Silva joins Lechno-Wasiutynski in the NCAA Singles Championships

BERKELEY - California men's tennis senior Tiago Silva qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship with a singles victory on the third day of the ITA West Sectional Championships on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

Silva defeated Arizona's Zoran Ludoski 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Silva's defeat of Ludoski, who is seeded fifth and ranked 63rd, was his third ranked win of the tournament. With the win, he qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships which are set to begin on November 18th in Orlando, Florida. Silva had also qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship alongside Junior Timofey Stepanov after winning the ITA Northwest Regionals to qualify. Silva also joined Sophomore Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski who qualified for NCAA Singles after making the finals at the ITA Northwest Regionals. 

For the rest of the Bears, they all completed play at West Sectionals with consolation and extra matches ending today.

The Golden Bears will be back in action at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, on Nov. 18-23.
