Bears, Blue Devils Set For Saturday Night Football Under The Lights

The California football team (4-1, 1-0 ACC) will host Duke (3-2, 2-0 ACC) at California Memorial Stadium for the first time since 1963 on Saturday night in Cal's annual Homecoming celebration. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT in Berkeley, with the game set to be aired live on ESPN.

BEARS VS. BLUE DEVILS
- The last time the Golden Bears and the Blue Devils played in Berkeley, the contest ended in a 22-22 tie.
- The two teams also previously met in Durham, North Carolina, in 1962 when the Blue Devils beat the Bears 21-7.
- All contests between Cal and Duke have been played in the month of October.
- This will be the first time the two programs meet in a conference matchup.

- Will celebrate Homecoming this Saturday evening in Berkeley.
- Commences its "October under the lights" with the first of three-consecutive 7:30 p.m. local-time kickoffs. After this weekend, Cal will have a pair of Friday night matchups, first meeting North Carolina at home on Oct. 17 before visiting Virginia Tech the following week.
- Ranks second in the ACC in scoring defense, with an average 18.0 points allowed per game.
- Ranks fourth in the ACC and 34th nationally in total defense with 307.2 average yards allowed per game.
- Is 16-of-20 on scoring in the redzone, 13 of which have been touchdowns (65.0%). The Bears scored touchdowns on just 24-of-47 (51.1%) of their trips to the redzone in 2024.
- Ties for 12th in the nation on fourth down attempts with 13 total in 2025.
- Has put up strong first-quarter starts and fourth-quarter finishes. The Bears are outscoring opponents 31-14 in the opening quarter and 44-23 in the fourth quarter this season.
- Is currently on a streak of 17 consecutive games with at least one sack recorded.
 
MASSES CATCHES MORE PASSES
- DB Hezekiah Masses has recorded four interceptions this season, tied for the most in the NCAA.
- Masses leads the nation in passes defended for the second consecutive week, with 11 total passes defended between four INTs and seven PBUs. His 11 total passes defended are three ahead of the second most in the NCAA.
- Masses recorded his fourth interception of the season at Boston College when he picked off the Eagles in the fourth quarter and returned it 22 yards - just two yards shy from the goal-line to set the Bears' offense up for a scoring drive on the next play.
- He recorded a third-quarter interception against Minnesota and picked off TSU at the end of the second quarter and returned it 28 yards to get the Bears' offense back out on the field. He returned a fourth-quarter interception 41 yards at OSU in his debut for the Bears.
- Masses has intercepted passes in the second, third and fourth quarters of a game this season.
- Prior to his arrival at Cal, Masses had only recorded three interceptions in his collegiate career.
- Masses continues the legacy of Bears leading the NCAA in total interceptions after 2025 NFL Draft pick and consensus All-American Nohl Williams finished his senior season with the Bears as the leading interceptor in the nation with seven total. Williams is tied for third on Cal's single-season interceptions list, with Deltha O'Neal the all-time single-season interceptor with nine in 1999.
 
NEW BASH BROTHERS IN TOWN
- ILBs Cade Uluave and Luke Ferrelli have emerged as Cal's latest dynamic inside linebacker duo.
- The pair have combined for 78.0 total tackles this season, the second most by any duo in the conference behind NC State's Caden Fordham and Sean Brown. They rank seventh in the nation as a duo.
- Uluave ranks fifth in the ACC for total tackles with 40, while Ferrelli is sixth in the conference with 38.
- Ferrelli recorded the first interception of his career at Boston College with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter - the play that sealed the Bears' victory.
- Uluave leads the Bears in tackles for loss with 6.0 this season. He recorded his first sack of the season at Boston College, pushing the Eagles back eight yards. It was the fourth sack of his career.
- Uluave and Ferrelli are the latest in a strong pattern of notable Cal inside linebacker duos. Uluave and 2025 NFL Draft pick Teddye Buchanan turned heads in 2024, combining for 185 tackles even with Uluave's season cut short due to injury after playing in only nine of the Bears' 13 games. Jordan Kunaszyk and Evan Weaver combined for 307 total tackles in 2018 before Weaver paired with Kuony Deng to form the nation's leading FBS duo with 301 tackles in 2019.
 
MINI MAKES MAJOR IMPACT
- TE Mason Mini continues to make a major impact in his first season with Cal, leading the Bears with three touchdown receptions this season.
- Mini's 51-yd touchdown reception at Boston College is tied for Cal's longest play from scrimmage this season. It was also the longest reception of his career and the Bears' longest TD reception of the season.
- His 70 yards receiving at Boston College was also a career high.
- Mini totaled 61 receiving yards in 12 games as a redshirt freshman at Idaho in 2024.
 
RAPHAEL REACHES 1,000+ CAREER RUSHING YARDS MILESTONE
- RB Kendrick Raphael surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards in Cal's win over Boston College.
- Raphael had his second career 100-yard rushing game of the season, finishing with 119 yards on a career-high 25 carries.
- He also had his second rushing touchdown at Cal and sixth of his career against the Eagles.
- Raphael is the Bears' leading rusher this season, having gained 347 yards on 75 attempts on the ground through the first five games (69.40 AVG/G).
- His 347 rushing yards is good for 12th in the ACC and his 75 carries are tied for second most in the conference this season.
- He recorded his first 100+ career rushing game against Texas Southern when he logged 122 yards and one rushing touchdown.
 
DE JESUS A DANGEROUS RETURN SPECIALIST
- WR Jacob De Jesus ranks seventh nationally and second in the ACC in combined kick returns with his 279 yards gained via punt and kickoff returns through five games this season.
- He ranks fifth in the conference and 24th nationally in kickoff returns, with a 23.3 average, and ranks fourth in the conference and 21st nationally in punt returns with a 13.4 average.
- De Jesus has added 237 receiving yards on 28 receptions this season, including two touchdowns against Minnesota and Boston College.
- He had a Cal career-high eight catches at Boston College and tied his Cal career-high 61 yards receiving.
- De Jesus ranks fourth in the ACC in total all-purpose yards with 525 and ranks 10th in the conference in average yards per game with 105.0.
 
SAGAPOLUTELE SURPASSES 1,200 CAREER PASSING YARDS
- True freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele surpassed 1,200 career passing yards at Boston College in his fifth game as a collegiate player. He has totaled 1,234 yards on 110 passes and has a QB rating of 130.37. His 1,234 passing yards is fifth most in the ACC this season.
- He completed 22-of-34 passes for 254 yards through the air and a pair of touchdown completions at Boston College. He matched his career-longest pass with a 51-yarder to Mason Mini, which was the longest TD throw of his career. He did not take any sacks.
- Sagapolutele has recorded a pair of three-passing touchdown games this season against both Oregon State and Minnesota. He also has one rushing touchdown this season. 
- Sagapolutele became Cal's first true-freshman signal caller to win a season opener in Cal's 34-15 win in Corvallis. He completed the first nine pass attempts of his collegiate career and in his first two drives was 6-of-6 for 125 yards with two TDs. He is only the second true freshman to be named the Bears' starting quarterback for a season opener since Jared Goff arrived in Berkeley in 2013, on his way to becoming the No. 1 overall NFL draft pick in 2016.
