STOCKTON – The California softball team defeated Pacific 6-5 on Tuesday evening at Bill Simoni Field.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Madison Rey responded in the second with her first home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

In the third, Gator Robinson gave the Bears their first lead with a solo shot to left field to make it 2-1.

Cal added three runs in the fourth to extend the advantage to 5-1. Sophia Everett and Robinson each drove in a run with singles, and Robinson later scored on a Pacific fielding error.

Kayli Counts pushed the lead to 6-1 in the fifth on a fielder's choice.

Pacific cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the sixth to make it 6-2.

The Tigers mounted a late rally in the seventh, scoring three runs, but were unable to bring home the tying run as the Bears held on for the 6-5 victory.

Layna Gerhard (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three. Kiki Mashhoud recorded her first save of the season, entering the game with no outs and the winning run at the plate.Â

Cal (9-17) returns to action on Friday in Saratoga with a matchup against North Carolina. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
