Cal Downs Sac State 3-2, Sweeps Series

Bears Extend Win Streak To 6 Games

BERKELEY— The Golden Bears brought out the brooms Sunday defeating Sacramento State 3-2 in game three at Stu Gordon Stadium in Berkeley. It was the first series sweep of the season for the California baseball team.

Cal is off to its best start since 2024 winning six straight games to improve to 8-3 while the Hornets dropped their fourth straight to fall to 3-8.

For the third time this weekend the Bears got a great outing from their starting pitcher. Sophomore Gavin Eddy (2-0) picked up his second straight win and went deeper than any Cal starter has this year tossing seven full innings of three-hit, one-run baseball to go along with five strikeouts. The Bears remain undefeated in Eddy starts.

After falling behind early with a Hornet run scoring in the top of the second inning, Cal tied things at one apiece in the fourth. Cade Campbell collected a two-out double to keep the inning alive and one pitch later Gannon Snyder drove him in on a double of his own. Campbell's knock extended his hit streak to 11 games and wrapped up the series hitting .583 with a 1.250 slugging percentage to go with four runs, and four RBI.

The difference in the game came in the bottom of the fifth when the Bears benefited from a Hornet fielding error to get the leading run into scoring position. Hideki Prather collected an RBI single, and Jacob French brought in what would be the winning run on a fielder's choice.

Cole Clark, who earned the win in Friday's game entered in the eighth and got the Bears a four-out save, his first of the year, in yet another scoreless appearance by the senior.

This was the first game of a six-game homestand as Cal is back at Stu Gordon Stadium on Wednesday before welcoming San Diego in for a four-game weekend series.
