SAN JOSE, Calif. - The 10th-ranked California women's soccer team improved to 8-0 with a 4-0 shutout of San Jose State Friday in the opening game of the adidas Bay Area Final Four. San Jose State dropped to 4-6.

Cal senior goalkeeper Maite Zabala was credited with the shutout, giving her the school record with 22.5 career shutouts. She surpassed Karen Cook (1993-96), who posted 22 during her Bears career. The shutout was Cal's sixth of the 2000 season.

Cal outshot SJSU, 15-11, with both Zabala and Spartan keeper Eryn Meyer making six saves each.

Sophomore forward Laura Schott put Cal up 1-0 just 1:26 into the game on a penalty kick.

Freshman Kim Yokers extended Cal's lead to 2-0 at the half with her third goal of the season at the 18:45 mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder Brittany Kirk.

Senior midfielder Natalie Stuhlmueller padded Cal's advantage to 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 49th minute.

Schott closed out the scoring at 66:24 with the help of assists from freshman midfielder Kathleen Cain and junior forward Kyla Sabo. Schott leads the Bears with 19 points (9G, 1A).

Cal faces No. 19 Santa Clara Sunday at 3 p.m., in the final game of the Bay Area Final Four at Spartan Stadium.
