No. 14 Cal Hosts Big Slam To End Regular Season

BERKELEY – Fourteenth-ranked California closes the regular season when it hosts No. 4 Stanford - the defending NCAA champion - in the Big Slam on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
 
The Golden Bears have won three straight matches and have compiled a 12-6 record (6-3 in the Pac-12) entering the week. Stanford is 18-1 and leads the conference with a 9-0 record.

Last Time: Bears Beat Buffs & Utes
Cal won both matches during its last road trip of the regular season, with the Bears beating Colorado, 5-2, on April 12 in Boulder and topping Utah, 6-1, on April 14 in Salt Lake City. Highlights included the Bears winning both doubles points and, in singles, Anna Bright, Olivia Hauger and Maria Smith each winning twice in singles. Smith clinched both victories and has now clinched seven wins for the Bears this season.
 
Poll Position
Cal earned a No. 14 ranking in Tuesday's Oracle ITA team poll and was ranked 23rd in last week's Tennis Channel/USTA Top 25. This week's Tennis Channel/USTA poll will come out on Wednesday.
 
Three Bears are ranked in Tuesday's week's Oracle ITA singles poll in No. 43 Olivia Hauger (23-7 record), No. 44 Julia Rosenqvist (22-15) – who is a two-time Pac-12 Player of the Week this season – and No. 119 Anna Bright (24-10). The pair of sophomores Rosenqvist and Hana Mraz (8-4) is ranked 14th, the team of Bright and sophomore Jasie Dunk (15-8) is ranked 39th and the duo of Mraz and Katerina Stloukalova (7-1) is ranked 54th in doubles.
 
Scouting the Cardinal
  • Stanford beat Utah, 7-0, on April 12 and Colorado, 4-0, on April 14
  • Since losing to current No. 1 Georgia, 4-3, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship semifinals on Feb. 11, the Cardinal has won 13 consecutive matches
  • Seven Cardinal players are ranked in singles in No. 28 Michaela Gordon, No. 36 Emily Arbuthnott, No. 38 Melissa Lord, No. 72 Caroline Lampl, No. 90 Emma Higuchi, No. 108 Janice Shin and No. 111 Sara Choy
