BERKELEY - One Cal senior clinched No. 19 Cal's win over Washington State on Saturday after another Cal senior helped to clinch the doubles point in an eventual 4-3 victory over the Cougars on Senior Day at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Maria Smith secured the overall match with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Yang Lee in singles, and fellow co-captain Olivia Hauger - with Katerina Stloukalova - clinched the doubles point with a court-three win earlier in the match.

The Golden Bears improved their record to 10-6 (4-3 in the Pac-12). WSU is now 17-7 (2-5 Pac-12).

Doubles ended not long after Cal celebrated the careers of the veteran Bears Smith and Hauger, who went on to play in their penultimate regular-season home match in Berkeley. Saturday was also Alumnae Day at Hellman, as Cal honored the memory of the late Jane Haughney with the dedication of a Hellman seat to the former Golden Bear.

In doubles, it was a pair of sophomores who posted the first win of the day, as the 28th-ranked Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk bested Lee and Melissa Ates, 6-2, on court two. Hauger and Stloukalova followed with a 6-3 win over Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska on court three to give Cal a 1-0 lead.

After WSU picked up a win in singles to tie the match at 1-1, the 42nd-ranked Hauger untied it with a 6-0, 6-3 result over Hikaru Sato on court two to give Cal a 2-1 advantage. Bright, ranked 111th, later made it a 3-2 lead with her 6-3, 7-6(2) win over Tiffany Mylonas on court three, before Smith settled the match with a court-four win that gave Cal a 4-2 lead.

The Cougars collected another win to make the final score 4-3.

"It was a really special day," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "I was glad to have such a great group of (former head coach) Joan Parker's former players here today. It was special that we were able to honor Jane and have the current team meet some of their predecessors. It was great the alums were able to stay and support us during the match. It was also special to honor our seniors.

"Today I was really glad to see us adjust in doubles, as I talked about yesterday. I wanted to see us make that shift, and we did today. I thought we played slightly better in singles today, but we still have a little work to do. We made the adjustments we needed to today, and I'm really glad we got a win at home on Senior Day. We hope to continue to progress in the conference standings in our next few matches. We're looking forward to our next couple of matches on the road and then a big match here with our rival Stanford."
