SAN FRANCISCO – California men's tennis senior Carl Emil Overbeck will play for two titles at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Sunday, with the Dane winning semifinal matches in singles and – with Theo Dean – in doubles on Saturday at the California Tennis Club. Overbeck also prevailed in a singles shootout on Saturday night to capture a wild card to compete in the Fairfield Challenger in October.
 
The winner of the singles final will earn wild-card entry to play in the Tiburon Challenger slated for Sept. 29-Oct. 6.
 
In their doubles semifinal, the fourth-seeded and 25th-ranked Dean and Overbeck ousted UC Santa Barbara's 45th-ranked Dominique Rolland and Gianluca Brunkow 8-3. The Golden Bears face the duo of Michigan State's Danial Rakhmatullayev and TCU's Duncan Chan in the final at 9:30 a.m. PT on Sunday.
 
Overbeck, seeded fifth and ranked 56th, later defeated Brunkow in the singles semifinals 6-4, 6-4 to set up a clash with TCU's fourth-seeded and 39th-ranked Lui Maxted in Sunday's 10:45 a.m. final.

A product of Copenhagen, Denmark, Overbeck already owns two Battle in the Bay Classic titles, as the veteran Bear partnered with former teammate Yuta Kikuchi to win in doubles in 2021 and 2022.
 
The Bears also played in extra singles matches on Saturday, with the 44th-ranked Dean besting Pepperdine's 103rd Maxi Homberg, the 123rd-ranked Alex Chang beating San Diego's 106th-ranked Stian Klaassen 6-3, 6-4, Timofey Stepanov defeating Texas Tech's Lorenzo Esquici 6-4, 6-3, Mikey Wright falling to Boise State's Lukas Velik 6-1, 6-2 and Wright getting edged by Pacific's Tiago Silva 7-6(4), 7-6(5).
 
The annual tournament ends Sunday.
