BERKELEY – The California football team closed to within three points of No. 15 Virginia in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell to the Cavaliers 31-21 at California Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Kendrick Raphael's third and final touchdown of the game cut Virginia's lead to 24-21 with just under 13 minutes to go, but the Cavaliers sealed the victory with an interception return for a score with 34 seconds remaining.
Raphael rushed for a pair of scores and caught a 42-yard scoring pass from tight end
Mason Mini to give him three touchdowns for the second week in a row. Raphael now has 11 total touchdowns on the season.
The Golden Bears (5-4, 2-3 ACC) fell behind 10-0 midway through the first quarter and proceeded to trade touchdowns with the Cavaliers the rest of the way. Raphael 's first score came on a 2-yard run early in the second quarter.

Aaron Hampton (15), defensive lineman

Cam Sidney (9) all set career highs in tackles for Cal. Hampton saw the most extensive action of his career after star linebacker
Cade Uluave was injured early in the game.
Wide receiver
Trond Grizzell led the Bears with a career-high eight receptions for 80 yards.
The Bears return to action next Saturday at No. 16 Louisville. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
