Franklin won four gold medals, and five overall, at the 2012 Olympics in London. She took gold in the 100m and 200m back, the 400m medley relay and the 800m free relay, while also claiming bronze in the 400m medley relay. She earned six gold medals at the 2013 World Championships. Franklin swam for two years at Cal before turning pro in the spring of 2015. At the 2015 NCAA meet, she set an American record in the 200y free and also won the 200y IM and 200y back. As a result, she was named the 2015 Honda Cup winner as the top female collegiate athlete. In addition, Franklin was tabbed the 2015 Academic All-American of the Year (at-large division).
