If having a documentary on Netflix (Top Spin) tracking your first Olympic journey in table tennis is not impressive enough, then surely solidifying consecutive Olympic bids by the age of 20 is. Zhang finished 49th in singles in 2012. She was only 16 then and the third-youngest of any Team USA member in London. Since 2012, Zhang has continued to build her resume, collecting numerous national championships while also earning several top-three world finishes. Zhang, an aggressive shakehand all-around attacker, took a year away from the classroom to join Austrian club SVNO Strock and compete in the European professional league to face stout competition. In 2016 so far, she’s claimed the U.S. women’s national title in singles and doubles.
