Having qualified for his third Olympic games at age 35 in both the 50 and 100-meter freestyle, Ervin is the oldest American male swimmer to qualify for an individual event since 1904. The Valencia, Calif. native won gold in the 50 freestyle and silver in the 400 free relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and, after retiring from competitive swimming at age 22, returned to the sport in 2011 and qualified for the 2012 London Olympics. While at Cal, Ervin won seven NCAA titles, including a three-year reign as the 100 freestyle champion.
