A versatile performer for Cal swimming, Gutierrez will enter his senior season in 2016-17 after helping the Bears finish in the top two at the NCAA Championships in each of his three years on the team. He scored points for the Bears at the 2016 NCAA Championships in the 200 freestyle and competed on three relays. Gutierrez qualified for the Rio Olympics thanks to posting a FINA “A” qualifying time at the 2015 U.S. National Championships in San Antonio, Texas. A native of Cottonwood Heights, Utah who was born in Mexico City, Gutierrez was named Utah high school swimmer of the year three years in a row.
