- Earned All-America honorable mention as a junior in 2017-18 by making the B final of the 100 breast at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
- Placed 10th in the 100 breast at the 2018 NCAA Championships with a time of 52.32 that ranked eighth in school history at the time.
- Swam to Cal's fifth-fastest time in the 200 breast in 2018.
- Earned his second trip to the NCAA Championships in 2017 by qualifying in the 100 breast.
- Set his top time of the 2016-17 season in the 100 breast with a 52.47 at the NCAA Championships.
- Ranked second on the team in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 breast in 2016-17.
- Qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championships in his first collegiate season, clocking a time of 1:54.92 in the 200 breaststroke at the Pac-12 Championships.
- Had the team's No. 2 time in the 100 breast (53.05) and third-fastest time in the 200 breast (1:54.92) in 2016.
- Also swam the 50 free at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships.
High School/Club/National Success:
- Attended Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, Calif. where he competed for coach Orin Bentley.
- Three-time high school All-American was the 2015 CIF-North Coast Section champion in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley.
- By the time he graduated, Sand held the section's second-best times in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
- Also competed for the East Bay Aquatics Association under head coach (and father) Mark Sand.
- 2015 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke.
- Pacific Swimming record holder in the 100-yard and meter breaststroke for the 17-18 year old age group (2015).
Personal:
- Intended Political Science major.
- Parents are Mark and Kristin Sand. Has two younger sisters, Cassie and Ashley.
- Big fan of music collaborates with another musically inclined Bear swimmer, Andrew Seliskar. Also enjoys hiking and anything outdoors.
