Biography
Cal Success:
- Made his Cal debut as a freshman in 2017-18 and competed in both breaststroke events in his first collegiate season.
- Set season-best marks in both breaststroke events at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. Stopped the clock in 54.41 in the 100 and 2:01.01 in the 200.
- Finished the 2017-18 season with the team's seventh-best time in the 100 breast and eighth-best time in the 200 breast.
High School/Club Success:
- Attended The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla., the same program that produced Cal legend Ryan Murphy and current Golden Bear Andy Song.
- Was an eight-time Florida state champion in high school competition, winning three titles in the 100 breaststroke. Also won four titles as part of the 800 medley relay and one as part of the 200 free relay.
- Graduated as the Florida state record holder in the 100 breaststroke.
- At Bolles, won the AC Skinner Award for Outstanding Performance and the OS Garces Trophy for Best Athlete.
- Helped Bolles extend its historic team championship streak on the state level to 29 years.
- On the club level, was a four-time junior national champion in the 200 and 400 medley relays, winning the 2015 title alongside Andy Song. Was also a two-time junior national silver medalist in both the 400 medley relay and 100 breaststroke and is a three-time national record holder in the 200 and 400 medley relays.
- Qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
- Honor roll student throughout high school.
Personal:
- Parents are Alexandra and Bill. Has one sibling, George.
- Great-grandfather General Lester Amiel Daugherty graduated from Cal in 1914.
- Intends to apply to the Haas School of Business and studied at the London School of Economics during the summer of 2017.
- Counts golf, surfing and basketball as well as watching the Dodgers, Lakers and 49ers among his hobbies.
