Cal Posts National Marks At Stanford Invitational
Martinez, Oakley And Corcoran All Post National Marks
STANFORD, Calif. – Distance races came to the forefront as some of the top runners from around the country came to California. California posted a number of national marks as they opened competition at the Stanford Invitational on Friday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Freshman
Brie Oakley posted a national mark in the 5000m as the freshman crossed the line in 16:27.10. Oakley finished seventh in her section of the race which went out fast thanks to a rabbit at the front of the pack. Oakley's time was faster than every mark in the country coming into the weekend.
Garrett Corcoran followed suit in the men's 5000m as he notched a mark of 13:54.64 which also would be a national-best mark coming into the weekend. The senior took fifth in his race by closing strong. His two fastest laps came in the final two as he closed with a split of 1:00.591 on the final lap.
Lauren Martinez claimed her fifth win of 2018 as she won the pole vault competition. The junior cleared 13-7.25 on her second attempt to equal the fourth-best mark in the NCAA during the 2018 outdoor season.
Camryn Rogers continued the torrid start to her Cal career as she notched a third place in the hammer throw with a toss of 207-3. All three of Rogers' fair throws went at least 206-8. She came into the meet with the six-furthest hammer throw in the country and all three of her fair throws would rank amongst the NCAA's top 11.
Kai Benedict also posted a top time in the men's 3000m steeplechase as he took fifth in his section with a time of 8:56.36. That would rank fifth in the country coming into Friday's action.

Joshua Johnson, who finished in sixth with a mark of 167-11 while

Misana Viltz competed unattached as the transfer is redshirting the 2018 outdoor season, but the transfer from UCLA showcased his talent in the 110m hurdles. Viltz had the top time in the prelims as he recorded a time of 13.92.
Ashtyn Davis had the second-best qualifying mark at 14.24. Viltz then went on to win the final with a mark of 13.85, which would tie for the ninth-fastest mark in school history. Davis did not compete in the finals.
Jenna Mencarelli qualified for the finals of the 100m dash with a time of 12.08. She was able to repeat that mark in the final and finished ninth overall.
