Rogers Sets Record, But Call Falls At Big Meet
Camryn Rogers Set The School And Big Meet Record In The Hammer Throw
BERKELEY, Calif. – California track & field fell on both the men's and women's sides to Stanford at the 124
th annual Big Meet Saturday at Edwards Stadium.
Camryn Rogers started the day strong as she set the school record and the Big Meet record with a throw of 214-2. The freshman also reset her own school freshman record and Canadian U20 record as her third throw cleared the previous school and meet record of 214-0. Jennifer Joyce previously held both the school and Big meet marks after setting them at the 2002 Big Meet.
However, Rogers' efforts weren't enough as Stanford topped Cal, 110-47, on the women's side and 89-51 on the men's side.
Silviu Bocancea got the men started on the right foot as he notched a throw of 209-11 in the hammer competition. That mark moved the junior into seventh all-time in school history and bettered his season-best of 203-9.
Kendall Mader took second place in the discus with a mark of 173-8 as she set a season-best.
Amarie Bremel claimed a personal best as she took third with a mark of 171-7. Bremel took sole possession of 10
th place on the school's all-time record book, she had previously been tied with Missy Faubus at 171-6.
Emma DeSilva finished in fourth with a mark of 162-11, setting a Sri Lankan national discus record.
Deshae Wise won the 100m hurdles competition with a time of 13.94. That mark moved her into a tie for eighth in school history with Goldie Ibia, who set the mark in 2013. Wise followed that up with personal bests in the 100m and 200m races. Wise totaled six points for the Bears as she took third in the 200m with a 24.11 mark. She finished in fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.00.
Jordyn Colter scored four points for the Bears across two races. Colter logged a season-best time of 2:06.40 in the 800m while taking second. She finished in third in the 1500m with a season-best mark of 4:22.80.
In her first career 3000m steeplechase,
Annie Boos notched a time of 10:43.62 to move into seventh on the school's all-time record list.
Garrett Corcoran raced to the finish line with a personal best in the 1500m competition, but Corcoran fell just short of Grant Fisher and took second place. Corcoran finished in 3:45.00.
Benjamin Micallef also collected a personal best with a time of 1:51.20 to take third in the 800m.
Andrew Lind also recorded a personal best in the pole vault competition as he was able to clear 16-00.75. Terrence Wilson set a new personal best in the javelin as he took second with a throw of 202-5.
Stanford set two Big Meet records on Saturday as Isaiah Brandt-Sims broke the record in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.41. He surpassed Jimmie Johnson's 1997 mark of 10.46. Mackenzie Little broke the meet record in the women's javelin with a throw of 192-4. She passed Brianna Bain's 2013 mark of 183-10.
Cal will have next week off as they prepare to meet Stanford again. The Bears will head to Cobb Track and Angell Field for the Cardinal Team Classic on April 20
