BOSTON – The California men's tennis team closed the fall portion of the 2019-20 season on Sunday at Harvard's Chowder Fest, with Cal's 58th-ranked duo of Paul Barretto and Can Kaya finishing as the doubles runner-up with its 2-1 record.

Harvard's Ronan Jachuck and Harry Walker (3-0 record) claimed the doubles title. Harvard's Henry von der Schulenburg (3-0) was the singles champion, and Virginia Tech's Henrik Korsgaard (2-1) was the tournament's runner-up.

Sunday's Chowder Fest session only featured singles at the Murr Center, with the 121st-ranked Paul Barretto defeating Cornell's Evan Bynoe, 7-6(4), 6-3, Kent Hunter falling to Indiana's Carson Haskins, 6-1, 6-2, Jacob Brumm beating the Hoosiers' Zac Brodney, 6-4, 6-3, Dominic Barretto topping Cornell's Lez Kazakov, 6-1, 6-4, Kaya defeating Indiana's Patrick Fletchall, 6-3, 6-4, and Thomas Wright losing to Cornell's Daniel Soyfer, 6-3, 6-1.

"We finished the fall season with a flourish," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "With three players in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships and seven at the Chowder Fest in Boston, we made the most of our competitive opportunities.

"We'll take the next couple of weeks to evaluate the individual performances and then craft a framework for the spring season. I'm encouraged by the quality of tennis our guys have been playing. We made progress with our doubles teams, and it's clear to me that one of our many strengths this year is our depth.

"There's still plenty of room to improve, and that's where our focus will be for the rest of the semester."
