TEMPE – California was ready to show and prove on Saturday after a near comeback on Friday against No. 22 Arizona State.
Â
However, much to the disappointment of the Golden Bears (27-21, 3-16 Pac-12), the momentum did not carry over as Cal gave up its sixth Pac-12 series in a 10-0, five-inning decision against the Sun Devils (30-16, 9-11) in Tempe.
Â
Without an offensive answer, Cal allowed eight hits on the day, which included a three-run homer to cement the early finish. It was ASU's fourth hit out of the park and seventh in the series.
Â
In the circle, the performance has been waning with the Bears subbing in multiple pitchers in each of the two games against the Sun Devils. ASU has homered against every pitcher in Cal's corps over the stretch, several of which were multiple-run homers.
Â
Stephanie Trzcinski was credited with the loss with relief from
Katie Sutherland-Finch and
Kourtney Shaw.
Â
The Bears return to Farrington Stadium one last time on Sunday to close the series at 3 p.m. (PT).
