Six Finish In Top-Two At Stanford Invitational
Isabella Marten, Joshua Johnson And Emma Seyer Earn Victories
STANFORD, Calif. – Six Bears posted top-two finishes as California track & field showcased their depth at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
McKay Johnson moved into second on the school's all-time shot put list as he unleashed a throw of 64-11.50 to take second place. Johnson, who previously sat in fifth on the school's all-time list, only trails Dave Porath's 1981 mark of 66-3.00.
Peter Simon took fourth in the competition with a toss of 61-6.25 while
Joshua Johnson won the collegiate division with a new personal best of 57-9.50.
Isabella Marten and
Ashley Anderson continued to excel in the triple jump as the duo claimed the top two spots for the second straight weekend. Marten continues to improve after missing last year due to injury as she claimed the win with a mark of 42-9.75, five inches further than she leaped last week. Anderson jumped 42-7.50, also a season-best mark.
Jordyn Colter notched one of the nation's best 800m times with a mark of 2:08.19 as he finished second in her heat. The time would have ranked 15th in the country coming into the weekend. Just behind her,
Katherine Haysbert finished in 2:09.60 and
Ariane Arndt crossed the line in 2:10.27.
Emma Seyer set a huge personal best with a throw of 188-2 on her final attempt to win the women's collegiate hammer competition. Seyer sat in third place, until she unleashed her final attempt which surpassed her previous best by 13 feet. All four of Seyer's fair throws surpassed her personal best coming into the competition and her final throw was just one foot from cracking the school's all-time top-10 list.
Three more Bears set personal bests on Saturday. Ben Micallef took 23
rd in the 800m with a time of 1:52.81.
Paramveer Chohan set a personal best in the 200m as he notched a time of 21.88 to take eighth place. Freshman
Maja Ahmann had a javelin mark of 137-7 as she took eighth.
Cal will return to Edwards Stadium for The Big Meet on Saturday, April 7. The Bears will go head-to-head with their Bay Area rivals, Stanford, starting at 10 a.m. for field events and 1 p.m. for track events.
