Cal Win 8 Of 12 Saturday At Chowder Fest
BOSTON – California men's tennis flourished on Saturday at Harvard's Chowder Fest, with the Golden Bears winning eight of 12 matches at the Murr Center. Cal junior
Jacob Brumm won three times – once in singles and twice (with
Kent Hunter) in doubles on the second day of the annual tournament.
The Bears won four of six singles matches, including Brumm's 6-1, 6-4 victory over Cornell's Lez Kazakov,
Paul Barretto's 6-4, 6-3 win over Harvard's Harry Walker,
Dominic Barretto's 6-7(0), 7-6(3), 6-2 result over the Crimson's Alan Yim, and
Can Kaya's 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, win over Harvard's Galen Lee. The Barrettos and Kaya are unbeaten in singles, with each Bear at 2-0 through two days of the tournament.
In doubles, the pair of Hunter and Brumm first posted a 6-2 win over Harvard's Henry von der Schulenberg and Logan Weber and then topped Indiana's Patrick Fletchall and Zac Brodney, 6-3. Also, the 58th-ranked duo of Kaya and
Paul Barretto defeated Cornell's Evan Bynoe and Daniel Soyfer, 6-2, and Cal juniors
Jack Molloy and
Thomas Wright edged Virginia Tech's Michael Shepheard and Mitch Harper, 7-6(7).
The Chowder Fest ends on Sunday.
