Schiller, Marten, Johnson And Joyner Earn Individual Victories

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California track & field collected 25 top-five finishes on the final day of competition at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday at Hornet Stadium.
 
Noelle Schiller set a new personal best with a long jump of 19-10.75 to win the long jump competition. Schiller hit the mark on her second jump while jumping into a wind. Later in the competition, she almost hit the mark again as she leaped 19-9. She had to sweat out the end of the competition though as Destiny Longmire of San Jose State recorded a sixth jump of 19-10.25 to challenge Schiller's winning mark.
 
In one of the last competitions of the day, Isabella Marten put down a mark of 41-10.00 to win the triple jump. Marten's best jump came on her first attempt as he took the competition by more than two feet over Marisa Kwiatkowki of Stanford.
 
For the second straight competition, the threesome of Joshua Johnson, Iffy Joyner and Malik McMorris took the top three spots in the shot put competition. Johnson won the competition with a throw of 55-10.50 bettering his mark from the Cal Opener by 5.5 inches. Joyner finished second and bettered his opener by two feet and 7.5 inches while McMorris took third with a throw of 54-10.25. Joyner came back in the discus and won the competition with a throw of 174-9. Johnson took fourth and McMorris took sixth. Both Johnson and Joyner bettered their marks from the opener.

The Bears won the meet on both the men's and women's sides. The men's team outscored eight competitors including Stanford and finished with 164 points. The women's team also claimed victory as they put up 155 points and outscored nine teams. 
 
The women's discus also saw a plethora of Bears better their openers and finish near the top of the standings. Kendall Mader added nine inches to her opener two weeks ago and finished second with a throw of 169-2. Amarie Bremel took third with a throw of 167-2 while Emma DeSilva jumped 154-0 to better her season opener.
 
The Bears also made an impact in the 800m race as Rebecca Croft took third with a time of 2:10.28 and Ariane Arndt finished in 2:10.49 to take fourth. It was a new personal best for Arndt as she also outpaced teammates Katherine Haysbert (7th) and Nuria Tio Peig (10th).
 
Misana Viltz is redshirting this outdoor season and competed in the meet unattached. Viltz finished in first place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.92. Viltz won the first heat while Branndon Marion won the second heat. Marion clocked a time of 14.78 to take fifth overall. Deshae Wise took third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.15.
 
Tristan Meye collected a pair of third-place finishes in the horizontal jumps. Meye jumped 23-11.00 in the long jump to better his opener by almost a foot. He followed that by adding 17 inches to his triple jump while finishing third!
 
Asha Culhane completed her first collegiate heptathlon with a fourth-place finish. The junior recorded 4501 points over two days. She sat in fifth entering Saturday's action, but she set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 17-8.00 to notch the third-best mark of the competition and secure 665 points. She finished the day with her highest point total of any of the seven events as she finished the 800m in 2:25.24 to record 754 points.
