Piatt has played in 13 games with five starts during an injury-plagued career but still leads all active players with four interceptions while ranking second with eight pass breakups and 12 passes defended. Despite injuries he recorded a team-high three interceptions and a team co-leading nine passes defended in the first action of his collegiate career as a 2014 sophomore, while adding 40 tackles and six pass breakups. Piatt began his career as a walk-on wide receiver before moving to safety midway through his 2013 redshirt freshman season and began to emerge as one of the team’s top safeties during 2014 spring practices.
 
Cal Career (2012-15)
• Announced his medical retirement from football on July 14, 2016, after a series of injuries plagued his collegiate career that he finished by playing in 13 games with five starts with all of his action coming during his 2014 sophomore and 2015 junior campaigns before season-ending injuries both seasons after he redshirted as a 2012 true freshman and didn't play as a 2013 redshirt freshman due to injury
• Finished his career with four interceptions that he has returned for seven yards, while adding 61 tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss (-12 yards), 1.0 sack (-12 yards), eight pass breakups and 12 passes defended
• Had his lone career fumble recovery as a sophomore at UCLA
• Recorded a career-high single interception in each of the first three contests he played in his career as a sophomore at Northwestern, vs. Sacramento State and at Arizona when he returned the ball for a career-long seven yards before picking up his fourth and final career pick at Oregon as a junior

• Recorded all nine passes defended in the first four contests and all six pass breakups in a three-game span vs. Sacramento State, at Arizona and vs. Colorado
• At the time of his season-ending injury ranked among conference and national per-game leaders in interceptions (0.50, No. T2 Pac-12, No. T16 NCAA), passes defended (1.50, No. 2 Pac-12, No. 14 NCAA) and tackles (6.7, No. 21 Pac-12) but did not play in the minimum number of games to qualify for the final rankings

• A first-team MaxPreps All-American, All-East Bay, All-Metro and All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League selection as a defensive back during his 2011 senior season when he broke the school record and tied for the team lead with 12 interceptions from his safety position
• Also had 50 receptions for 1,030 yards receiving and 15 TD catches as a senior, including a long reception of 91 yards, to add second-team ESPN High School California All-State, and first-team All-East Bay and All-DFAL honors as a receiver to the defensive back honors
• Added a pair of touchdown passes for 76 yards throwing the ball as a senior
• Senior squad advanced to the Division II state championship game after winning North Coast Section and DFAL titles, before losing to Washington Union to finish with a 14-1 overall record and a 6-0 league mark
