McDonald is looking to see his first action at Cal in 2016 after redshirting as a 2014 true freshman and missing the 2015 season while also being limited in 2016 spring practices as he recovered from an injury suffered during the team's 2015 training camp. He is listed in the No. 4 spot at one safety position on the 2016 preseason depth chart.
