Mayo is looking to see his first action at Cal in 2016 after redshirting as a 2015 true freshman. He is listed in the No. 3 spot at the 'SAM' linebacker position on the 2016 preseason depth chart. Mayo was named second-team All-East Bay Athletic League in his third and final season of varsity football as a prep, seeing most of his action at linebacker but also adding playing time at tight end for a squad that reached the North Coast Section playoffs in each of his three campaigns.

• Put up strong numbers on defense as a 2013 junior when he registered 80 tackles, four forced fumbles and six pass breakups for a team that reached the first round of the NCS playoffs
• Helped his team finish 8-5 overall and advance to the third round of the NCS playoffs as a 2012 sophomore before falling to perennial powerhouse De La Salle
